‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the box
Nothing was stirring, not even Zach's socks.
The ropes were hung on a rusty screw with care,
In hopes that Greg Glassman soon would be there.
The athletes were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Tiger Balm danced in their heads.
Coach G in his skins, and Baz in her scarf,
Had just settled their brains for a day with no barf.
When out on the parking lot there arose such a clatter,
And I wondered if today’s WOD would be kind to my bladder.
Then I heard the sound of kettlebells in a loud crash,
and two tall shadows running the 100 meter dash!
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Shone bright on Sue & Tav's Canuck-Mobile below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But two bald men and all of their gear.
With a cute little car, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be D-Hump..
More rapid than Simon's pullups they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Katie! now, Karen! Now, Adam and even Ikem!
On Shari and Andrew at last at 6:15!
To the top of the rope! to the top of the wall!
Now squat away! squat away! And puke away all!"
As dry heaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, they just want to cry.
So up to the bars their pectorals flew,
With hands full of chalk and a few blisters too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard in my ears
The loud sound of a buzzer confirming my fears
In twenty rounds Coach Kimi had done what I did in three
She’s getting 'her money’s worth. It’s so obvious to me!
Coach Andrew was covered in chalk from his head to his foot,
Coach Suzana's clothes would all but stay put;
A bundle of bumpers Coach Ade had flung on her rack,
As Karen nursed a chronic pain on her back.
Coach Megan’s eyes -- how they twinkled! Her dimples how merry!
Not sharing in our misery, NO, on the contrary!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow
Smiling inside saying “Now their muscles will grow!”
The last of their vomit, they held tight in their teeth,
And the sweat it encircled their heads like a wreath;
They once had a broad face and a little round belly,
But now they’re all buff and have sworn off even jelly.
No longer chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
I’m just so glad I’ve done this for myself;
A stroke of his dry erase marker and a nod of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had so much to dread;
We spoke not a word, but went straight to our work,
1000 wall balls and 500 clean and jerk,
And keeping the snot tight in our nose,
Inside we were thinking, “This really just blows!”
Coach Bernie sprang to his mac, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like a self-guided missile,
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Keep sweating you all! But for me a good-night."
