170802 ~ Games Week....and Inspiration to Us All

'The Games' are where the top 40 men and 40 women who qualify from nationals compete to get the title "Fittest on Earth." A great way to prepare for these festivities is to watch the CrossFit documentary with the same title.  Many of these athletes train 4-5 times a day. Matt Fraser came 2nd place in 2014. He also came 2nd place in 2015.Training full time for 365 days a year, up to 5x a day....That's 1825 gruelling workouts just to come in 2nd place!

At the 2015 Games, Matt Fraser came in 40th in the sprints event...dead last. His background is 10 years of Olympic Lifting, he was not blessed with the ability to sprint very fast.

When they finished the event he looked at the camera and went. "Well that sucked!"

40th out of 40 athletes, then came back to finish in 2nd place.

That must of stung his ego a bit, to say the least. If he'd only finished in the top 25 for that event, he probably would of got the top spot overall!

The same event came up AGAIN in last year's games. Matt spent the majority of the year before the games training on his own and what no one knew is that he had added track work to his training. He sneakily started doing sprint training. He competed in the 2016 games and didn't just improve his performance....He didn't even just move up the rankings a bit...He won the heat!!

He went from crossing the line last to crossing it first, IN UNDER A YEAR!

He wasn't celebrating "yes I won, I'm the best" or anything like that.

This is what Matt said about winning:

"As I stand on the podium with the winners title no one really knows about all the evenings I had to use my flashlight on my phone to find my way back to the car from the track, so I am really glad all the hard work paid off."

That was super inspiring for me.

I can't help but behind every success is an element of unspoken of background hard work!

The Games are full of inspirational stories.  When you watch the events this weekend, don't overlook all the blood, sweat, and tears it has taken to get to that level.  Sometimes it takes sacrifices and a tonne of hard work to reach your goals!

When you walk into the box today, take a look at the goals you wrote on the goals board.  It is much easier to write something down, then it is to go out and do it!  Have you been putting your extra time in at the "track?"  How are those pullups coming along?
